Îles de Lérins

Two islands offshore from Cannes

The îles de Lérins, offshore from the Croisette boulevard in Cannes, are two gems of the Mediterranean Sea. Sainte-Marguerite is the biggest island. It is covered with a forest of pines and eucalyptuses, and is protected by a fort built by Vauban. This is where the Iron Mask was buried. The lovely beaches around the island allow you to swim, away from the buzz of the French Riviera. Neigbour island Saint-Honorat is smaller but offers greater heritage, including an abbey from the 5th century, founded by Saint-Honorat. Ferries leave from the coast, to visit the two islands.
